Abstract

One of the most important of pollution forms in cement factories is air pollution by dispersing particles to atmosphere. The particles are contained a certain amount of heavy metals.

The aim of present study is detection of heavy metals from dust of the Behbahan cement factory using Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Ziziphus spina-christi  as biomonitoring tools. Sampling was carried out random systematic to determination of heavy metal (Cr, Ni, Cd and Pb) concentration in tree leaves and were measured by ICP-AES atomic absorption. Results were:

 - Average concentrations of metals Cr, Ni, Cd and Pb in Eucalyptus camaldulensis leaves 2.29, 11.64, 0.06 and 1.62 ppm respectively.

 - Average concentrations of metals Cr, Ni, Cd and in Pb Ziziphus spina-christi  leaves 1.66, 4.38, 0.04 and 2.07 ppm respectively.

The results showed heavy metal concentrations were different in plant species taken from different places and directions and species of the factory. The data showed only the mean of chromium and nickel metals on Eucalyptus camaldulensis and chromium on Ziziphus spina-christi  was higher than world standard. Also the concentration of elements on trees was decreased with distance of the pollution source.

Abstract

The purpose this study was to evaluate the level of elementary school children environmental awareness, attitude and practice of environmental issues and the relationship between students and teachers is the level of environmental awareness. This study is applied and the method of research is descriptive-analytic. The study population included all students studying in fourth, fifth and sixth primary school and teachers respectively. Data collection tool that utilizes the experts confirmed the validity and reliability of the questionnaire was estimated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient 0/7. Data analysis was performed through Spss software. The results of the statistics shows that the level of environmental awareness of students and teachers is low and the environmental awareness of students and teachers was established. Sex Factor teachers and students on knowledge, attitude and practice no significant environmental effects on students (0/05 Pvalue≥). Moreover, the impact of the level of education on environmental awareness of students, indicated that the level of education on environmental attitudes and practice of students but has no effect on their environmental knowledge is effective.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Increasing the volume of municipal solid waste on a global scale and the consequently environmental challenges followed by the lack of appropriate waste management systems in some societies, increase the importance of using environmental friendly waste management systems in different region of the world. The followed aim of present study is to use the life cycle assessment methodology to investigate different ways of disposal and refining of municipal solid waste in Omidieh city.
Material and Methods: For this purpose, in line with the goals and scope defined in the life cycle process, three scenarios as: landfill, compost and landfill, compost, recycling and landfill were defined and life cycle inventory was performed using the IWM-2 model. In the last stage, the environmental impact assessment of each scenario investigated as six categories based on ISO14042 guidelines framework.
Results:  The findings of present study indicate that by processing the different fraction of municipal solid waste with compost and recycling, not only can reduce the volume of landfill waste significantly, but also can minimizing the environmental effects of municipal solid waste for third scenario compared to the other two scenarios.
Conclusion: The results of the life cycle assessment process performed in present study clearly shows the suitability of third scenario for neglecting the environmental effects of municipal solid waste management system in Omidieh city.
