Objective: Occupational well-being of medical staff, in addition to individual and organizational factors, is influenced by the quality of architectural and spatial work environments. The present study was conducted with the aim of explaining the architectural factors effective in promoting the occupational well-being of medical staff and investigating the role of spatial qualities in the organization and adaptability of therapeutic spaces. Methods: In terms of purpose, this research is applied, and in terms of method, it is descriptive-correlational. The statistical population consisted of medical staff working in six selected hospitals in Tehran, from among whom 214 individuals were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire comprising 38 items based on a four-point Likert scale. For data analysis, KMO and Bartlett's tests, principal component analysis with Varimax rotation, Pearson correlation coefficient, multiple regression, and covariance-based structural equation modeling were employed. Furthermore, the mediating role of the variables of interactivity, controllability, naturalism, and variability was examined using the bootstrapping method. Results: The results indicated that there are positive and significant relationships among all research variables. In explaining spatial organization, controllability, variability, naturalism, and interactivity had the greatest predictive power, respectively. Furthermore, interactivity was the most important predictor of spatial adaptability, and its corresponding model was able to explain 28.4% of the variance of this variable. Occupational well-being alone explained approximately 13.8% of the variations in spatial organization and 12.6% of the variations in spatial adaptability. The results of structural equation modeling indicated the complete mediation of architectural qualities in the relationship between occupational well-being and spatial organization. In this regard, controllability demonstrated the strongest indirect path. Conclusion: Promoting occupational well-being necessitates simultaneous attention to the managerial, individual, and architectural dimensions of the work environment. Designing therapeutic spaces with an emphasis on the possibility of control and choice, spatial diversity and flexibility, enhancement of professional and social interactions, and connection with nature can contribute to the formation of organized, responsive, and adaptable environments and provide the ground for promoting the occupational well-being of medical staff.
